    Booking & Jail Information

Defendants who are arrested in an area served by the SFPD Mid-Market Substation will need to be booked and processed.

Arrestees will be transported to the Bryant Street Jail where they will have their photographs and fingerprints taken, their information will be entered into the computer and bail will be set based on the nature of the crime they are being accused of.

Booking often takes between 4 to 6 hours, from start to finish.  The jailer will not allow any local bondsman to post a bond until this step is complete.

All defendants will need to clear a national background check and warrant screen before they can bail out.  This is done by submitting their fingerprints to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The DOJ often takes several hours to return those results to the jail.   This is why booking takes as long as is it does.

Bail Bond Cost & Flexible Payment Options

The cost to purchase a SFPD Mid-Market Substation will be 10% of the defendant’s total bail amount.

If you do not have that full amount available all at once, don’t worry. You will simply want to look for a bondsman who can assist you with a flexible monthly payment plan.

All companies are required to charge the same rate but that is not to say they are all alike.  The terms and conditions for bail bonds payment plans can vary widely depending on who you work with.

You will want to be sure to hire a bondsman who you feel is best able to help based on your individual financial situation.

The SFPD Mid-Market Substation opened in March 2013.  Officers are hopeful that additional police presence in the rough-neighborhood will help deter and reduce crime.

The Sixth Street district is comprised of many low-income hotels and the surrounding areas have long been plagued with criminal activity.

This space will allow officers to complete administrative work and to fill out reports without needing to drive back to a larger, district station.  In addition to saving time, it will help keep police on the street.

The department said the opening of the Mid-Market station will add eight additional officers to the area and will bring the total number of patrolling officers up from 16 to 24.
