FRESNO COUNTY SHERIFF - AREA 1

The Fresno County Sheriff's station in Area 1 of San Joaquin have established roots in the communities they serve. They continuously strive to make a difference in quality of life issues, crime prevention, and crime fighting efforts.

With deputy sheriffs assigned to local schools and Operation Safe Streets, as well as a host of community liaison functions, the men and women who are assigned to this station provide 24-hour patrol and detective services.

Area 1 covers over 2400 square miles of western Fresno County and is one of two patrol areas in the Southwest Field Services Bureau. The Area 1 station is located in the City of San Joaquin.

The Area 1 sheriff personnel consist of 1 lieutenant, 8 sergeants, 1 office assistant, 4 community service officers, and 34 deputy sheriffs. Area 1 has six incorporated cities within its boundaries including Coalinga, Huron, San Joaquin, Kerman, Mendota, and Firebaugh. The Fresno County Sheriff Department is also the contract law enforcement for the cities of San Joaquin and Mendota.

In addition to the incorporated cities, Area 1 has a number of unincorporated population centers in its area. These include communities such as Tranquility, Biola, Bryant, Oxalis, Los Deltas, Five Points, Alkali Flats, Three Rocks, Cantua Creek, and Dos Palos which make make up a diverse population to the agricultural based economy.

Area 1 personnel in San Joaquin have also created partnerships with local businesses, service organizations, the faith community, schools, and individual citizens to problem solve and improve the quality of life in the various communities.

These efforts have resulted in the T.A.G Program (Teaming Against Graffiti). The business community, citizen groups, County Probation and the Sheriff’s Office have formed a collective partnership to eliminate graffiti and a newly maintained park located in Three Rocks.
