CAPITOLA POLICE DEPARTMENT AND JAIL INFORMATION

The Capitola Police Department implements the mission to prevent and deter crime through the utilization of patrol in response to calls for service. This includes POP projects, directed patrol; Detectives who perform comprehensive investigations and liaise with other local law enforcement agencies; parking enforcement; city wide traffic enforcement and DARE and Diversion programs.

When an individual is arrested in Capitola, they will be taken to the Santa Cruz Main Jail for processing and booking. If they are a woman, they will be taken to the Blaine Street Facility Jail.

The arrest and booking process consists of fingerprinting, background check, a check for warrants and entering the defendant's information into the computer system.

Processing and booking can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, sometimes more. Bail may be set by the jail or court. Once they have been booked, we are able to post the bond.

If the defendant is not bailed out, he or she will remain in the jail's custody until their case has been resolved in court.

If a bail bond is arranged for, the defendant will have time to obtain legal services. Further, they can get work, school or job affairs in order should jail time be required.

HOW MUCH IS A BAIL BOND?

Bail bonds typically require payment prior to the detainee's release and are 10% of the total bail amount. This percentage is mandated by California state law. For example: If the amount of the bail is $25,000, it will cost $2,500 to have the defendant released from jail.
