$100,000 cash found at San Jose Burger King
A Burger King employee had the shock of her life last week when she found an abandoned backpack near one of the fast food restaurant's tables.

It was just another normal day, according to sources, and it seemed that a patron had randomly left the item behind.  But when the owner of the franchise took a peek inside, he never imagined he'd find roughly $100,000 in cash.
Piles of $50s, stacks of $100s
The assistant manager said she first spotted the bag while she was wiping down tables on Wednesday; she didn't think too much …

San Jose PD Staffing Could Hit Three Decade Low

Sources within the San Jose Police Department have confirmed that sworn staff is leaving their ranks faster than the department can replace them.

As it stands, between two and four officers are leaving each month, they said, and the number of recruits that are graduating from academy classes is less than what they'd hoped for.

It's estimated that the number of sworn staff could fall below 990 by July of next year, which would mark the first time this number has fallen below 1,000 since the Regan administration.

Unless things change, that number could drop below 950 by July 2017.

Retention is a …

SFPD Wins “Earthquake Food” Cook Off

Late last week, San Francisco Police Department officers and other first responded got together for an "earthquake food" cook off.

Many people don't keep a full stocked pantry; the purpose of the contest was to take everyday, humble food items and transform them into a gourmet meal.

The ingredient list was simple and included things like Spam, Ramen noodles and a variety of canned vegetables.  These types of things are often considered to be bottom shelf, if not downright boring.  They're things that have probably been stashed away for quite some time because families tend not to cook with them.

That could …

San Jose Police: Arrested Naked Guy Had 3 Warrants

A spokesperson for the San Jose Police Department has confirmed the naked guy they arrested last week was found to have three outstanding warrants.

It all started several days ago when officers received word that a man who wasn't wearing anything except shoes was seen wandering around downtown.  Police said they aren't sure when the guy started removing his clothes, but they did suspect he was high on some sort of drug.

The suspect was reportedly wandering from house to house and eventually sat down on someone's porch.  Residents and their children were frightened, they said, so they tried to subdue …

Does The San Jose PD Have A Drone?

The San Jose Police Department may have denied having any records about a spy drone program, they've recently changed their tune.

It's not that they don't have one of these devices, they said, they've simply not flown it yet.

A few weeks back the SJPD said they didn't have any documents that supported the purchase of an aerial drone, but after some gentle pushing by the media, the paperwork managed to turn up.

Not only was there a purchasing slip, there was also an accompanying grant application to the federal government asking for assistance.

According to documents, the drone was acquired by the …

Man With Five Dogs Investigated By Los Gatos Police

Members of the Los Gatos Police Department received a complaint call last week about a man who had five dogs living on his property.  The town code limits pet owners to having two canines, they said, and this man was in clear violation.

The unnamed 54-year old wasn't home when officers knocked on his door, but law enforcement did observe multiple dogs living on the property.  One police sergeant described them as an English Mastiff breed, which are known for growing quite large.

Four of them were located in kennels, he said, but the fifth was seen roaming free.

An official report …

Suspect Bites Police Dog

When most people think about a dog bite they imagine a human with a bloody shin.

In most cases that's about right - but the San Jose Police Department said that's not how things worked out earlier this week.

Representatives from the department said a suspect was hospitalized after fighting with, and eventually biting, a department K9.
Although the unnamed man remains hospitalized, he is expected to be transported to the Martinez Detention Facility in the near future.

A naked man who broke int a local church and proceeded to smash and break religious statues has been arrested by the Milpitas Police Department.

Although it is still unknown what prompted 30 year-old Michael Vickroy to shed his clothes and wreak havoc within the church, drugs could very well have been a factor.
