Bail Set At $700,000 For San Joaquin Jail Detainee

Deputies at the San Joaquin County Jail said they are currently detaining an inmate who is being held in lieu of $700,000 bail.  The 19 year-old defendant, Shawn Strauss, was taken into custody last week after he was taken into custody during a traffic stop by members of the Manteca Police Gang Suppression Unit.  Strauss was found to be in possession of firearms and drugs at the time he was pulled over.  Officers believe it was his intention to illegally sell and distribute those items to interested buyers.

San Joaquin Sheriff’s Deputies Honored

Members of the San Joaquin Sheriff's Department and Tracy Police Department were honored this weekend as part of the American Legion's annual Officers and Firefighters of the Year ceremony.  The ceremony is held at the beginning of each year as a way to recognize key individuals who have dedicated their careers to keeping people safe. Tickets to the event were $10 in advance or at the door.

Task force aims to keep people out of San Joaquin jail

In an effort to keep jail inmate populations in control and prevent criminals released from prison as a result of the state's realignment program from committing offenses, San Joaquin County created a task force. Fox reported the Community Corrections Partnership Task Force is a joint effort  involving county police departments from Lodi, Stockton, Manteca and Tracy.

Stockton Police Chief Eric Jones told Fox that the special group will specifically target those who have been released from prison or jail early. Prevention and enforcement efforts will help police and probation officers keep closer watch on these former inmates to ensure they …
