Venice Beach Dog Walker Throws Hissy Fit With Police, Gets Ticketed Anyway

Venice Beach Dog Walker Throws Hissy Fit With Police, Gets Ticketed Anyway

Late last week a beach area blogger stumbled upon quite the spectacle.

It all started when as seemingly entitled, long brown-haired 20 year-old woman was walking her dog on the sand. This is a big no-no, as per city ordinance, because the four-legged animals' excrement have been making seals sick, and sick seals have been making dogs sick.

Signs are posted everywhere, and although there's a decent sized contingent of residents who chose to ignore the law, for the most part, when the LAPD Pacific Station police catch them, they issue a verbal warning and shoo them back to the sidewalk.

That …

MashUp: LAPD, Ninjas, A Pirate And Candy Crush

It's one of those videos where, as you start to watch it, you find yourself cocking your head to the side and raising an eyebrow.

You want to shut it off, but the quirkiness keeps you watching much longer than you know you should.

However the latest 5-minute video PSA that's been released by the LAPD does have a purpose.

The ultimate message is simple: if you have valuable items in your car and you don't stash them out of sight, bad guys are likely to pilfer your goods.

This "24" parody begins as, special agent "Jack", has been captured by narco cyber …

More Than 200 Fallen LAPD Officers Honored In Memorial Ceremony

More Than 200 Fallen LAPD Officers Honored In Memorial Ceremony

Leadership within the Los Angeles Police Department last week gathered to celebrate the lives of the more than 200 LAPD officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Those men and women, they said, served in different time periods throughout the departments 145+ year history.

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti said the ceremony touched home, especially in light of the deaths of three officers who recently lost their lives in traffic accidents.

Officers Nicholas Lee, Roberto Sanchez and Christopher Corijo all lost their lives in the past 90 days in the line of duty.  Sanchez was killed during a vehicle …

LAPD Improves Efficency By Working Smarter

Once a week, the leadership within the Los Angeles Police Department gets together to review crime trends, analyize statistics and to discuss strategies to improve performance.

During a recent meeting,  they reported homicides were down, but the instances of shots being fired and the number of aggravated assaults had climbed month-on-month.

This trend, they said, was largely tied to some upheaval in the leadership of a local gang, and department members said they'd already started on outreach to community members and church leaders to help negotiate a truce.

Today, it's not just about patrolling the streets.  It's about taking a proactive approach …

LA County Jail Opponents Say Adding Beds Won’t Help Mentally Ill Inmates

LA County Jail Opponents Say Adding Beds Won’t Help Mentally Ill Inmates

Although the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is considering a plan to expand the county's jail system, some have called the idea of adding more beds misguided at best.

A growing portion of the inmate population is mentally ill, they said, and the greater focus should be on treatment, not detention.

Sure, spending the money would allow more people to be locked up, but the ACLU says it will do nothing in terms of enhancing public safety.

Audit Finds LAX Pays LAPD $8M For “Unknown” Services

Big payment, no records
An independent audit has found that the Los Angeles International Airport paid nearly $8 million to the Los Angeles Police Department to provide police services at the airport- but records of the payments- and the services the LAPD provided, do not exist.

The airport has a tendency to generate significant revenue, according to sources, and federal law requires those monies be used for operational and capital costs.

They are not permitted to funnel money into nearby cities.
The non-existent paper trail
The primary question in all this relates to why the LAPD was paid so much money- especially since the …

Pasadena PD To Turn Over Police Shooting Investigations To LASD

The Pasadena Police Department Chief of Police said he feels the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department is the most qualified agency to investigate officer-involved shootings (OIS), and that he intends to pass that baton effective immediately.

Not only will this help increase transparency, he said, it will also help ward off the idea that the fox is watching over the proverbial hen house.

What's more, he said, is the sheriff's department does not charge a fee for this service.  And the sheriff's department said they're simply there handle the criminal investigation portion …

Lamborghini Super Cruiser To Be Added To LAPD Fleet

It's safe to say the LAPD's new Lamborghini Gallardo is the most expensive vehicle in the department's fleet.

Although the vehicle is not off-the-lot new; it was donated by a generous citizen, a department spokesperson said they're thrilled to have it in their garage.

It's already been painted and logo graphics with the words protect-and-serve have already been affixed to the doors.

But for those hoping to see the LAPD's sports car patrolling the streets- you're out of luck.

Mounted Police Used To Chase Down Pimps

Mounted patrol pimp sweep helps clean up Compton
It's probably safe to say a crop of recently arrested Compton pimps never thought they'd be chased down by cops on horseback- but it happened.

Sure, there are many officers who prefer to patrol their beats in cars, on motorcycles and even on segway scooters, but others say riding a horse suits them just fine.

Although some will argue the practice is a little bit dated, others point out that mounted patrol units have their advantages.

Police Taze Deaf Man For Using Sign Language

Victim said he was attempting to tell officers that he was deaf
Four members of the Hawthorne Police Department are being sued after tazering a man who was picking up boxes from a friend's house

It all started last week when a concerned neighbor saw Jonathan Meister loading some boxes into his car.

The caller is believed to have read recent reports about brazen daytime burglaries, they said, and called the PD to report what looked like suspicions activity.

When the officers arrived, they saw the alleged suspect loading items into his trunk and ordered him to stop.   Meister, who is deaf, didn't …
