Night of the drunk-driving living dead
Police say that a women who was decked out in zombie gear was arrested on drunk driving charges twice last weekend; the second arrest came about three hours after she was released on the first.

Officers say they initially pulled the 26 year-old woman over just before 2 a.m. for driving without having headlights on.  She had just come from a "zombie prom" party, and had a few too many adult beverages while she was there.  Police officials say they arrested her, brought her to the station and released her into the custody of a …

Police in Roswell, New Mexico say they've arrested two burglary suspects after one of them butt-dialed police.

The inadvertent outbound call was placed just after the 37 year-old man and his 35 year-old female accomplice had burglarized an area home.  At some point, during the getaway, one of their phones dialed 9-1-1.  Not only did dispatch get an earful about the details of the crime, the things they took and their getaway, the entire call was recorded.

Police listened along for 45 minutes and not only heard them talk about how they wish they had taken more, but then bragging about …

Haunted Jail Museum Opens For Halloween

A cold, abandoned jail in Texas has been transformed this Halloween, the county's historical commission says it's chock full of goblins, ghouls and things that go bump in the night.

Many local residents say that if they haven't already been to the jail, they plan on making the trip with their families.  Seeing an abandoned, "haunted" detention center is a perfect scary outing to pair with the Oct. 31 holiday.

Organizers say that when visitors arrive they'll be taken on a guided tour of the first and second floors of the building.  On the ground floor, ghosts can be seen throughout …

New Policy In Sonoma Could Double Bail Bonds Cost

When someone is released from the Sonoma County Jail on bail bonds, prosecutors have 15 days to file formal charges against the defendant.  If they don't, the bail bonds expire.

This week, judges say they are going to start observing these strict time limits.  If the District Attorney's office files charges after that time frame, the court says they'll require a new bond be posted.

Opponents of this decision call it an essential doubling of the county bail schedule, and point out that if families can't afford to pay twice, the defendant will be stuck behind bars until their case is …

Voters To Weigh In On Controversial Bail Reform Law

On Nov. 4, a controversial ballot measure that could potentially remove the right to bail bonds for certain, pretrial inmates in New Jersey will be brought to the state's voters.

Backers of the proposed law say it will allow the state to keep the alleged "worst of the worst" behind bars until their cases are over.  Ultimately, if passed, the new law would allow the state to prohibit those who have been accused of the most serious crimes from hiring a bondsman.

Current law grants all pretrial defendants the right to post bail; if voters give the bill a nod, the …

Airman Arrested For Giving A Double ‘Wet Willie’

A reasonably intoxicated airman found himself on the wrong side of the law recently after he gave a double wet willie to an on-duty cop. For some, getting a wet-willie is an annoyance, but when damp pointer fingers assault the inside of an officer's ears, well that can be classified as a crime.

The 24 year-old was at home on leave from the air force, according to friends, and he decided to celebrate his temporary freedom with a night out on the town. At the end of the night (and after last call), Riley Swearingen did not head directly to …

Things To Remember During An Arrest So You Don’t Lose Your Job

Law Enforcement Feels Prop. 47 Will Harm Public Safety

The official name of Prop. 47, a ballot initiative that will be brought to voters in the November election is the "Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act";  opponents say that Prop. 47 is anything but that.

SFPD Wins “Earthquake Food” Cook Off

Late last week, San Francisco Police Department officers and other first responded got together for an "earthquake food" cook off.

Many people don't keep a full stocked pantry; the purpose of the contest was to take everyday, humble food items and transform them into a gourmet meal.

The ingredient list was simple and included things like Spam, Ramen noodles and a variety of canned vegetables.  These types of things are often considered to be bottom shelf, if not downright boring.  They're things that have probably been stashed away for quite some time because families tend not to cook with them.

That could …
