The San Diego Police Department Northern Division Police serve the neighborhoods of Bay Ho, Bay Park, Clairemont Mesa East, Clairemont Mesa West, La Jolla, La Jolla Village, Mission Bay Park, Mission Beach, North Clairemont, Pacific Beach, Torrey Pines and University City. This area is home to about 250,000 residents and is about 69 square miles in size.

Neither the SDPD Northern Division Police Station nor its substation has a jail or holding facility. Bail cannot be posted at these stations. Instead, people who are arrested in this area are transported to the San Diego Men’s Central Jail or Las Colinas jail if they are women. There, they are booked into a computer database in a process that includes being photographed, fingerprinted and questioned if the need arises. Bail amounts for arrestees are determined by a preset schedule created annually by judges.
