The Central Detention Center (CDC) served as the main San Bernardino county jail for 20 years.  Because of inmate overcrowding issues there, the West Valley Detention Center was opened in 1991.

Central Jail was closed for a few years because of budget limits, however, the jail reopened in 1994 when the Sheriff contracted with the U.S. Marshal's Service to house their federal prisoners.

For several years now, CDC has been the primary booking facility for the police and sheriff stations operating in the east valley, San Bernardino area. CDC has housed up to 850 federal inmates daily and currently, they house approximately 330 federal inmates and 600 county inmates.

When someone is arrested and brought to Central Detention Center, they will be fingerprinted, photographed, checked for warrants or holds, then taken to a holding cell. The amount of bail set will be determined by their charges and according to the San Bernardino County bail schedule.

Once bail has been set and the defendant is cleared, we may post the bail bond for their release.

VISITING INFORMATION

Prior to visiting someone at the Central Detention Center, you must call  the visiting appointment line at 909-386-0969 24 hours in advance to schedule an appointment. You must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your visit in order to check in. If you are late, you will not be admitted.

Please be prepared to show a current ID, such as a driver's lilcense, military ID or passport. All visitors allowed must be 18 years of age or older.
