LOS ANGELES COUNTY JAIL SYSTEM
Smaller jails mean quicker release. Begin the bail bond process before your loved one is transferred and booked into a large Los Angeles jail.
The amount of time it takes for booking and processing of bail bonds varies because each LA County jail has its own procedures. It's important to begin the bail bond process as soon as possible. After a person is booked into an LA County facility, it can take between 2 and 24 hours to be released on a bail bond.
The Los Angeles County system is comprised of many jails throughout the county. Often, inmates are arrested and booked at one of the smaller local jails and may be released from those jails relatively quickly:
If release is not obtained from the smaller jails, inmates are usually moved to the Twin Towers Jail in downtown Los Angeles.
Transfer downtown results in a considerably longer release process because of the physical move as well as processing, paperwork, and computer updates required on the part of the jail system. The county jail can often take up to 24 hours to get an inmate released on a bail bond. We recommend that customers do everything possible to obtain release prior to transfer to downtown.
