    CAMPUS SAFETY

    CARE

CARE stands for Campus Alliance for a Risk-free Environment. It is a student security team that is employed, trained and supervised by University Police. The program is in response to the community's desire to maintain the safety and well-being of University students, faculty and staff.

CARE team members are responsible for providing personal escorts and added building security during evening and night time hours. Members will escort anyone to and from classes, labs or offices and to vehicles or campus housing. Most escorts are provided by walking, but under special circumstances an electric cart is available.

At night, on-campus transportation is available to any student with temporary or permanent disabilities. This service is available Monday through Saturday from 4:30 pm- 11:00 pm.

    Emergency Phones

Emergency Phones are located throughout the campus, including on each level of the main parking garage. Each phone is clearly marked, and when activated connects directly to University Police Dispatch Center.

    SART

The University's Sexual Assault Response Team is appointed by the Chief of Police. The mission of the team is to provide a proactive response to campus sexual assault issues, and to do everything possible in order to prevent sexual assaults on campus.

SART responsibilities include being a contact point for victims, coordinate support for victims, train women in sexual assault issues and defense, and provide rumor control and communication.

    BOOKING PROCESS

When someone is arrested on campus, they will either be given a citation and released or taken to the San Francisco County Jail for booking and be held until bail is posted. The booking process will include fingerprinting, photographs, a background check and warrant search.  A bail amount will be set according to the county's bail schedule.

Once they are completely booked into the system, the defendant will be able to post cash bail themselves, have a friend or family member bail them out, or a licensed bondsman can post it for them.
