The Placer County Jail is the main jail facility for Placer County and is operated by the Placer County Sheriff’s Department.  The jail services the communities of Tahoe Vista, Sheridan, Olympic Valley, North Auburn, Lincoln, Newcastle, Loomis, Roseville, Penryn, Sunnnyside-Tahoe City, Granite Bay, Meadow Vista, Dutch Flat, Kings Beach, Foresthill, Dollar Point and Colfax.

The Placer County Jail houses primarily “pre-trial” defendants, both male and female, most of whom are likely eligible for bail.  At current, the Placer County Main Jail has a capacity to house 352 inmates.  Most of the jail’s cells are double-bunked.

ARREST & BOOKING PROCESS

When someone is arrested in Placer County they will be taken to the main jail facility to be booked.  This process often takes several hours and includes a background check, fingerprinting and having mug shots taken.

In order for an arrestee to be released quickly, the bail bonds process should be started as soon as possible after you’ve been notified of your loved one’s arrest.

INMATE VISITING

Those wishing to visit an inmate at the Placer County Jail will need to be checked in 30 minutes prior to their visitation session.  The jail visitation schedule provides additional information regarding visitation hours.

You will need to know the housing assignment of the inmate you wish to visit, and visitors should be aware that only two, half-hour visiting sessions are permitted each week and know that sessions may not take place on the same day.

No more than two visitors are permitted during each half-hour period.  Valid identification for all visitors is required.
