NEWMAN POLICE DEPARTMENT AND JAIL INFORMATION

The Newman Police Department is a full service department.  The department currently has 13 sworn officers, 1 code enforcement officer, and 3 professional staff members. All Criminal cases and traffic accidents within the City limits are handled by Newman Police officers.

The Newman Police Department protects the right of all people within its jurisdiction. They do this by performing their law enforcement functions in a professional manner.

Those arrested by the Newman Police Department will be transported to the Stanislaus County Jail for booking and processing. This jail located in downtown Modesto.  Female arrestees will generally be transported to The Public Safety Center facility on East Hackett Road, located in Modesto.

When a defendant is booked into the system, it generally entails fingerprints, photographs (mug shots) and investigating the defendant's background for any previous warrants or holds.

Although the jail staff may not be able to notify us exactly when the inmate will be released, whey they are released they will have access to a phone. If the defendant is not bailed out from jail, he or she will usually remain in custody until the matter has been resolved in court.
