Those arrested in Inyo County are usually arrested by officers from the Bishop Police Department. The arrestees are transferred to the Inyo county jail (located in the city of Independence). The arrestees will be “booked” into the Inyo county jail. The booking process normally requires 2-4 hours (depending on the workload of the officers and other factors). Upon completion of booking, most inmates be “cited out” or released with “no charges” filed. As required, bail will be set. Bail is determined by officers who refer to a “bail schedule” for Inyo County. The exact bail is determined by many factors; including seriousness of the crime, arrest record of the defendant, general stability of the defendant and other factors. Once bail has been determined, arrestees will be eligible to post bail utilizing a bail bondsman. Bail bondsman will charge a fee (usually the legal rate of 10%) and will assume the full risk of the entire bail amount. Release times from the Inyo jail are usually 1-2 hours.

The Inyo County Jail is located just east of Edwards Street at the intersection of Park St. and Clay St. If you choose to visit an inmate at this jail, we strongly recommend that you contact the jail prior to your visit. Note that this jail houses all inmates that have been arrested in Inyo County. Bail can be posted with the cashier at the jail.
