The PBUS Annual Conference is nearly upon us, and those wishing to attend still have time to register.

The 2014 Winter Conference will take place between Feb. 23 and Feb. 26 at the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, NV.  Those who have yet to complete their bail agent certification will be able to take classes onsite.

Volunteer opportunities are still available and those who sign up will need to participate in training on Feb. 23 between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.  The rest of that day will include time for exhibitors to set up their stations, several committee meetings, a Board of Directors meeting and late afternoon registrations.

The following day will include a general session, CBA and breakout sessions and a membership meeting.  The exhibition hall will also be open between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

On Tuesday registration will kick off at 8:00 a.m.   The exhibit hall will be open through mid afternoon an a General session will take place in the morning.  That evening's lineup includes a cocktail, Gala dinner and the council of presidents.

The final day's program will include a membership meeting, a luncheon and the election of next year's Board of Directors.

Those who are interested in being considered for a spot on the Board of Directors will need to have their dues paid in full and will need to have been a PBUS member for at least two years.   You will also need to hold a valid and up-to-date bail license, which means you're allowed to negotiate, post and transact bail bonds in your home state.

If you'd like to have your name printed on the ballot you will need to have your nomination submitted before Feb. 11.  If you don't get your nomination in by that time, you can still be nominated from the floor at the Monday morning membership meeting.

Those who aren't interested in running but would like to vote will also need to be a member in good standing whose dues are paid current. If you're not a member of PBUS, you can join at the convention provided you can show proof that your bail license is valid.   If it's lapsed or expired, you won't be eligible to participate in the voting process.

PBUS representatives say this year's highlight speaker will be an expert in Internet investigation and email tracing.

Speaker Brian Ingram is a former law enforcement officer and Chief of Police that has years of experience in conducting criminal and civil investigations.   His company, Texas-based Consulting Investigation Services, provides Internet profiling, surveillance operations and email tracing.

Not only can this type of information be used to track a bail skip, he said, but there is other open source information that can be extracted from social media websites that can help pinpoint a person's location.
