Parents from throughout the county say they shaken after learning a 7 year-old boy was nearly kidnapped at an Ocean Beach park.

A spokesperson for the San Diego Police Department has said that even though abduction attempt took place last month,  the incident is still fresh in everyone's mind.

The good news, they said, is that the 28 year-old suspect has been taken into custody.

Little league coach Scott Hedencamp said it all started when he noticed a man staring at the boys during a practice session.   It was pretty obvious that this person had fixated on one particular player, he said, and at one point, started cheering "that's my boy, that's my son."

The 7 year-old told his coach he had no idea who this person was.  The coach situated himself between the boy and the would-be kidnapper and kept him safe until police arrived.

News of the attempted child abduction reportedly spread quickly via social media.  Little league groups also spread the word, urging parents to be extra cautious and to report suspicious activity right away.

The boy was not harmed during the incident, police said, and the suspect has already been arraigned.  He has pled not guilty to attempted kidnapping and resisting a police officer.
